Ensuring the accessibility of information in the Union Catalogue of National Libraries (ALEPH)

The service provides:

1. remote access to the Joint Catalogue of the National Library of Latvia, the Library of the University of Latvia, the Scientific Library of Riga Technical University, the Library of Riga Stradiņš University, the Fundamental Library of the Latvian University of Biosciences and Technology, the Library of the Latvian Academy of Culture, the Library of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, the Library of the Riga International School of Economics and Business Administration, the Library of the Riga Law School, and the Library of the Latvian National Museum of Art;
2. extensive search and browsing capabilities in the library joint catalogue and local library databases;
3. the ability for registered library users to create personalized accounts, which provide user information, information about books issued in the library, history of issuances, reservation requests, request history, and payments made for library services provided;
4. the ability to create bibliographic references for information resources in accordance with international standards (APA, Harvard, MLA) in the joint PRIMO Discovery search engine;
5. the ability of registered library users to create a reservation request for a copy in the collection of the respective library, as well as to extend the return deadline for a book;
6. the availability of the internationally reliable full-text and database search engine PRIMO Discovery, which offers simultaneous information search in the resources of five state and university libraries, in subscribed and open-access databases – the National Library of Latvia, the Library of the University of Latvia , the Scientific Library of Riga Technical University, the Library of Riga Stradiņš University and the Fundamental Library of the Latvian University of Biosciences and Technology;
7. the ability to create a personalized selection of information by specific areas, as well as display search results according to the priority order set by the reader;
8. for authorized users, using PRIMO Discovery, access to full texts from online databases subscribed to by the respective library;
9. for unauthorized users, using PRIMO Discovery, access to online data resources up to the annotation level.

Service provision process:

The Joint Catalogue of State Libraries (ALEPH) is available to both registered library users and unregistered users.

In the event of malfunctions in the Joint Catalogue of State Libraries (ALEPH), applications can be submitted to the unified ICT Support Portal of the Ministry of Culture https://atbalsts.kultura.lv. On the unified ICT Support Portal of the Ministry of Culture, the appropriate thematic group must be selected and the appropriate application form must be filled out.
